Hair transplantation is a surgical form of hair restoration, as opposed to non-surgical hair restoration techniques and protocols. Hair transplant surgery involves the removal of hair follicles from part of the scalp, referred to as the “donor site,” to a bald or balding part of the scalp, referred to as the “recipient site.”

Hair transplant surgery is a technique that is primarily used to treat noticeable male pattern baldness. This procedure involves harvesting grafts containing hair follicles that are genetically resistant to balding (like the back of the head). These follicles are typically not prone to thinning due to resistance to DHT. The harvested follicles from the donor site are transplanted to the region of the scalp with thinning/baldness.

The follicular units obtained by the FUE method are the basic building blocks of follicular unit transplantation.

Follicular Unit Extraction

Sierra Robot Hair Institute specializes in Follicular unit extraction (FUE), and is one of two primary methods of obtaining hair follicles, naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs, for hair transplantation. The other method is called strip harvesting, and is less desirable as it is known to leave an incision scar on the donor site.
