PRP

Platelet Rich Plasma

Propranolol (or PRP), is a new blood thinning medication that was originally developed to treat high cholesterol levels. In recent years, it has been found to have some impressive hair restoration potential. PRP, is now becoming an increasingly valuable tool for the treatment of hair loss, often referred to as male or female pattern baldness. Platelets rich plasma (PRP) contains molecules and nutrients that are felt to stimulate natural hair restoration and growth.

The three-step procedure of FUE is very simple. First, a numbing agent such as lidocaine is injected into the area. This numbing agent helps to block pain and discomfort. A piece of sterile skin is then placed on the injected area. Next, a needle containing the follicular unit extractor is inserted into the skin and FUE is then done.

WHY PRP HELPS

Many of the new hair restoration products contain minoxidil (or Rogaine) as an active ingredient. This is a vasodilator used to reduce hair loss by keeping the blood vessels to the scalp open during resting times. Another new hair thinning medication on the market contains topically applied platelet rich plasma, which has been found to stimulate cell growth. These treatments, though they do not work for everyone, may help many people with mild to moderate hair loss. If you are experiencing hair thinning and would like to try one of these newer treatments, discuss your options with your physician or hair care professional.

YOUR OWN PLATELETS

Because PRP treatments are more complicated than other treatments available today, patients should be made aware of possible health risks. It is important that all patients take careful note of their side effects when taking PRP treatments. Patients should also be sure to ask their physician or hair care professional about the safety of these injections prior to getting them. Many patients have found that taking these new medications can help them regain their confidence after a hair loss treatment such as laser treatment or transplant.

On average, it takes one treatment to obtain two to three days of new hair growth. In order to estimate the success rate, you need to calculate the time from the first treatment to the date of the last treatment. The FUE hair transplant procedure can be done in under an hour, depending on the experience of the surgeon. One thing that you should consider though: it needs a lot of practice. It might take a lot of sessions to achieve the desired result, but in the end it will worth the wait.
